Mixed Media Girls Book Review

Mixed Media Girls by Suzi Blu is amazing! I first checked out this book from the library (more than once), and then decided to purchase my own copy. Suzi guides you through drawing and shading faces...creating folk art dolls....adding embellishments....and so much more. She provides step by step instructions for practice and then when you feel ready, guidance for creating your first piece.

Below are a few of my practice illustrations:

Practice shading a sphere

Practice with facial features using graph paper.

After much practice, I decided to start my first piece. The photo below is my version of Suzi's "Marie Antoinette."

Almost done...

My version became a dream fairy, and I loved creating her using the techniques I learned in the book.  She was a gift to an amazing young lady, who named her "Hope."

Dream Fairy, "Hope"
The book also includes a DVD with teaching from Suzi Blu. She is really fun to watch in action! She has many great tutorials on YouTube as well. If you are interested in becoming more skilled at illustrating facial features, learning more about Mixed Media art techniques, or just want to have fun, I can highly recommend this title.

Do you have a favorite "go to" book for learning new art techniques...or another favorite thing to do? If so, I would love to hear about it. Please share!

Have a great week everyone!
